Sri Lanka Police arrested a total of 490 individuals on suspicion during special island-wide operations conducted yesterday (25) to apprehend individuals suspected of involvement in various criminal activities.
Police said that a total of 26, 868 individuals were subjected to inspections yesterday during the operations.
Police have identified 24 individuals directly linked to criminal activities, police noted.
In addition, 228 persons wanted under day warrants and 148 persons wanted under open warrants were arrested.
Meanwhile, 37 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, while another 92 were taken into custody for reckless driving.
Legal action was also initiated against 4,036 individuals for various traffic offences, police said.
