Sri Lanka’s Commonwealth Games gold medalist Rumesh Tharanga has once again risen to the top of the world men’s javelin throw rankings.
The Sri Lankan athlete reclaimed the number one spot following his impressive performance at the 12th leg of the Diamond League athletics series held in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Tharanga secured first place at the event on August 21 with a throw of 88.14 meters.
According to the latest world rankings, Tharanga leads with 1,363 points, while Germany’s Julian Weber, who previously held the top spot, has dropped to second with 1,342 points.
Weber was ranked first and Tharanga second when the Lausanne leg began. However, Weber decided at the last minute not to compete in the event.
Tharanga won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a throw of 89.75 meters.
