Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath has held a productive telephone conversation with Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal on the situation following devastating floods in Nepal, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s readiness to provide assistance.

Minister Herath said Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centres would coordinate closely with Nepalese authorities to identify and provide any specific assistance required in the wake of the disaster.

“Sri Lanka remains steadfast in its solidarity and commitment to our close friend and neighbour, Nepal,” Foreign Minister Herath said in a post on X.

The Foreign Minister’s intervention comes as Nepal continues rescue and relief operations following the deadly floods, which have caused loss of life and widespread destruction.

Meanwhile, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives caused by the floods and extended Sri Lanka’s condolences and solidarity to the affected communities.

The President said Sri Lanka stands ready to assist Nepal with rescue and clearance operations.
