Three individuals, including a 10-day-old infant, have been killed in a fatal road accident that occurred this morning (27) in the Gonamariyawa area along the Medawachchiya –Kebithigollewa main road.
The accident had occurred when a three-wheeler travelling from Kebithigollewa towards Medawachchiya collided head-on with a jeep travelling in the opposite direction.
Two women and a 10-day-old infant who were travelling in the three-wheeler had succumbed to injuries in the accident.
The deceased have been identified as a 49-year-old woman from Padavi Sri Pura, her 26-year-old daughter, and the daughter's 10-day-old baby.
The 31-year-old driver of the three-wheeler had sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the Kebithigollewa Base Hospital.
The victims had been travelling to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital when the tragic accident occurred.
Kebithigollewa Police have arrested the driver of the jeep in connection with the accident.
