A woman and a man have died following an accident involving a motorcycle and a three-wheeler on Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha in Ambalanwatta, Galle.
The accident occurred this morning (27) when a motorcycle travelling from Karapitiya towards Ambalanwatte lost control, slipped and toppled on the road and a three-wheeler travelling in the opposite direction, from Ambalanwatte towards Karapitiya, subsequently collided with a nearby electricity pole.
The female passenger traveling in the rear of the three-wheeler died on the spot after the vehicle overturned and crashed into a nearby electricity pole.
The motorcyclist, who sustained critical injuries after falling at the scene, was admitted to the Galle National Hospital and succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The deceased have been identified as a 59-year-old woman residing in the Kanampitiya area and a 49-year-old man residing in Heenpandala.
Galle Traffic Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
