Showers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Several spells of showers will occur in the North-Western Province, the Met. Department said.

Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in the Uva Province and in Ampara, Batticaloa and Hambantota districts after 2.00 p.m.

Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.

Meanwhile, strong winds of about 40-50 kmph can be expected at times over the Western slopes of the Central hills, Northern, North-Central and North-Western provinces and in Trincomalee, Monaragala, Hambantota and Matale districts.

The general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The Department also said the sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka until September 07 due to its southward relative motion.

Accordingly, the sun will directly overhead today (29) over Pallawarayankaddu, Akkarayankulam, Ariviyal Nagar, Puthukkudiyiruppu, and Ananthapuram at about 12.11 p.m.
