Sri Lanka finished a disappointing seventh at the Asia Rugby Men’s Sevens Series 2026 – China 7s after recording a convincing 35-5 victory over Malaysia in the seventh/eighth-place playoff.
Sri Lanka’s campaign ended on a winning note after a series of mixed results in China.
The Tuskers had earlier missed out on a place in the fifth-place playoff after suffering a shock 19-29 defeat to Thailand. They were then beaten 0-17 by a strong Japan side in the Cup quarter-final.
Sri Lanka had managed just one win during the opening round of matches.
They opened the tournament with an emphatic 49-7 victory over Kazakhstan before narrowly losing to China 19-26 and South Korea 17-19.
The seventh-place finish comes after Sri Lanka showed glimpses of strong form throughout the tournament but struggled to convert several close encounters into victories.
