The Government Dental Surgeons’ Association (GDSA) has denied reports published in several media outlets claiming that the association has expressed a view on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.
The Secretary of the Association, Dr. Aruna Abeywardena said no discussion had been held on the amendment at either the Executive Committee or Central Committee of the association.
He also said the association had not issued any official statement expressing a position on the matter.
According to the association, its officials had attended a trade union awareness meeting at the invitation of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL).
The association stressed that attending the meeting did not amount to taking a position on the 22nd Amendment.
It further stated that legal and judicial matters such as constitutional amendments do not fall within the scope of the association as a professional body.
