Four train services have been cancelled due to the unavailability of a power-set and a locomotive, the Sri Lanka Railway Station Masters’ Union said.
The cancelled services include two trains operating on the Kelani Valley Line and two freight train services on the Main Line.
General Secretary of the union Kasun Chamara Jayasekara said the 4.00 p.m. train from Colombo Fort to Avissawella scheduled for today and tomorrow, as well as the 5.55 a.m. train from Avissawella to Colombo Fort, have been cancelled due to the unavailability of a power set.
Meanwhile, two freight trains operating on the Main Line have also been cancelled today as a locomotive was not available to operate the train.
The Railway Station Masters’ Union said the continued cancellation of train services and frequent technical failures have become increasingly common within the Railway Department.
The union warned that the situation is causing considerable hardship to daily commuters who depend on railway services for their transportation.
