Sri Lanka records over 10,000 dengue cases in August

The National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) stated that a total of 10,157 dengue cases were reported across Sri Lanka in August, bringing the number of dengue cases recorded so far this year to 95,493.

 

The NDCU said 72 dengue-related deaths have been recorded island-wide, with the mortality rate standing at 0.076%.

 

According to NDCU data, the highest monthly number of dengue cases this year was recorded in July, with 29,964 cases, while 21,533 cases were reported in June and 10,157 cases in August.

 

Of the total dengue cases in the island, a total of 50,506 cases have been reported from the Western Province.

 

Additionally, a total of 13,886 cases have been reported from the Southern Province and 8,710 cases from the Central Province.

 

At the district level, Gampaha has recorded the highest number of cases, accounting for 21.31% of the total, while Colombo District has reported 18,914 cases and Kandy District 6,977 cases.

 

Meanwhile, 50 Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions across the island continue to be identified as high-risk areas for dengue.
