Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, alias “Pillayan,” and two military intelligence informants have been further remanded until September 15 over their alleged involvement in the 2008 killings of five people in Batticaloa.
The order was issued today (01) by the Acting Magistrate of the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court, after the three suspects were produced before court via Zoom from prison.
The case has been filed over several incidents reported in 2008, including the shooting deaths of two people, including a police officer, in Kallady, the killing of two people, including a TMVP member, in Kattankudy, and the abduction and killing of a businessman in Vavunathivu.
Pillayan and the two military intelligence informants were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in November 2025 under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The CID filed the case against the four suspects, including an individual reportedly residing in London, at the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court on June 17, 2026.
Following today’s hearing, the Acting Magistrate ordered Pillayan and two others to remain in remand custody until September 15.
An open warrant was also reissued for the individual, who is reportedly absconding in London, and the case was postponed, Ada Derana reporter said.
