The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to amend the Community-Based Corrections Act, No. 46 of 1999, with the aim of strengthening the legal framework for dealing more effectively with repeat offenders.
The decision was taken at the Cabinet meeting held on April 7, 2025, where approval was granted to update the relevant provisions of the Act to facilitate more effective enforcement of the law against individuals who repeatedly commit offences.
Following the Cabinet’s approval, the draft amendment Bill prepared by the Legal Draftsman has received clearance from the Attorney General.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by the Minister of Justice and National Integration to publish the Community-Based Corrections (Amendment) Bill in the Government Gazette and subsequently present it to Parliament for approval.
