
A woman known as “Kompannavidiya Kudu Nona,” also known as “Nona Amma,” who is alleged to have been involved in drug trafficking for several years, has been arrested by the Kiribathgoda Police with heroin and cash believed to have been earned through drug trafficking.
The 54-year-old suspect was arrested while transporting drugs to be handed over to a drug trafficker residing in Chettikulam.
Police had seized 50 grams of heroin prepared for sale and Rs. 48,000 in cash suspected to have been earned through drug sales at the time of her arrest.
The suspect, who has previously resided in Kompannavidiya and Kiribathgoda, has faced drug-related charges in the past. She had also been remanded and subsequently released on bail in connection with an incident involving the possession of 34 grams of crystal methamphetamine(‘Ice’).
Kiribathgoda Police have launched a special investigation into the suspect, who had allegedly been evading police for an extended period, as well as into the money, properties and assets she is suspected to have acquired through drug trafficking.
Police are expected to submit information regarding these assets to court in due course.
Investigations have also revealed that the arrested suspect is the aunt of “Chuti Ukkung,” a prominent drug trafficker who was recently killed in a clash between two underworld gangs.
Her husband, known as “Koombikele Chuti,” is currently in remand custody after being convicted in a drug-related case.
Meanwhile, the Kiribathgoda Police are conducting further investigations into the suspect, who is being detained and questioned under the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance.
