An individual has died and another was injured in a road accident in the Salambaikulam area of Vavuniya, according to the Poovarasankulam Police.
The accident had occurred last night (02) when a tipper truck travelling from Mannar towards Vavuniya lost control and crashed into a shop located along the Vavuniya–Mannar main road.
Two people who were working in the shop at the time of the accident were injured and admitted to the Vavuniya Hospital. One of them later succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased has been identified as a 31-year-old resident of Salambaikulam, police said.
The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested in connection with the accident and is scheduled to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate’s Court.
The Poovarasankulam Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
