Showers above 50mm expected in several areas today
Several parts of the country could receive fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 50 millimetres today (04), with showers and thundershowers expected in several provinces after 2.00 p.m., according to the Department of Meteorology.
Heavy rainfall is expected in the Uva, Central and Eastern provinces, and in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaitivu districts, the Met. Department noted.
Meanwhile, several spells of showers are forecast for the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and the Galle and Matara districts.
The Met. Department also urged the general public to take adequate precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning that may occur during thunderstorms.
