Establishing a new public transport culture is the main objective of the Metro Bus service, says Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake.
He made these remarks while attending the opening ceremony of the Thalangama Depot of the Lanka Metro Transit today (04).
The depot was officially declared opened this morning under the patronage of Presidential Secretary Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake and Deputy Minister of Transport and Highways Dr. Prasanna Gunasena.
Speaking at the event, the Presidential Secretary said the initiative was not merely about introducing new buses, but about creating an entirely new culture in public transportation.
He said the new transport culture would provide passengers with comfortable buses, drivers and conductors who treat passengers with respect and consider their needs, pleasant travel experiences and greater safety.
“The ultimate goal is to create a public transport culture that allows people who currently travel alone in their cars to use public transport with comfort and ease,” he further added.
