Maximum retail prices set for locally produced canned fish
A Gazette notification has been issued imposing maximum retail prices on locally produced canned fish.
Accordingly, the maximum price of a 155 grams can should be between Rs. 220 - Rs. 260 and a 425 grams can should be between Rs. 510 - Rs. 600.
The notification states that, under Section 20(5) of the Consumer Affairs Authority Act No. 9 of 2003, no local manufacturer, packer, distributor or trader shall sell, offer for sale or display for sale the specified varieties of canned fish at prices exceeding the maximum retail prices stipulated.
The order will come into effect from September 5, 2026.
