Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has returned to Sri Lanka after concluding her official visit to Bhutan, where she attended the 2026 Global Summit on Conscious Food Systems.

 

During her official visit, the Prime Minister met Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

 

She also held bilateral discussions with Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay and Minister of Education and Skills Development Yeseang De Thapa.  

 

Prime Minister Amarasuriya also held discussions with senior diplomats representing various fields, including senior representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other international stakeholders.

 

Concluding her official visit to Bhutan, which lasted from August 31 to September 5, Prime Minister Amarasuriya returned to Sri Lanka onboard Royal Bhutan Airlines flight KB 200.

 

During the visit, she also paid homage at the Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu and visited the Royal Textile Museum, Simtokha Dzong and the National Museum of Bhutan in Paro.

 

The visit was described as an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations and friendship between Sri Lanka and Bhutan, while expanding cooperation in areas including education, culture, the environment, sustainable development and people-to-people ties.
