
A Sri Lankan national has been arrested in Indonesia after authorities discovered 101 birds of various species allegedly being smuggled out of the country.
According to foreign media reports, the man was arrested yesterday (05) at an international airport in Banten, Indonesia.
Authorities reportedly found the 101 birds carefully concealed in 15 small boxes inside a suitcase.
The suspect is believed to have attempted to transport the birds out of Indonesia illegally. Some of the species found are reportedly protected under Indonesian conservation laws and regulations.
The Indonesian Quarantine Office and the Natural Resources Conservation Agency have launched further investigations into the incident and the suspect.
