India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled an international drug trafficking network operating across Nepal, India and Sri Lanka, Indian media reports said.

A coordinated operation conducted by the NCB’s Chennai Zonal Unit, with support from the Hyderabad Zonal Unit, resulted in the seizure of more than 77 kilograms of hashish oil and two kilograms of charas.

A fishing boat allegedly used to transport the contraband was also recovered.

According to the NCB, five individuals, including a Sri Lankan refugee, have been arrested so far in connection with the drug trafficking network.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the charas and hashish oil were smuggled into India from Kathmandu, Nepal, through the Sonauli Indo-Nepal border.

Investigators found that approximately 78 kilograms of hashish oil had already been delivered by the suspects to Thoothukudi, from where it was allegedly intended to be transported to Sri Lanka by sea.

Acting on the information, the NCB’s Chennai Zonal Unit launched an operation and seized the hashish oil from the suspects.

Further investigations are underway to identify other individuals involved in the international drug trafficking network and establish the full extent of the operation.
