Daily electricity demand in Sri Lanka declined over the four-day period from August 31 to September 3, while electricity generation remained on an upward trend, according to the latest data from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
Electricity demand stood at 2,947 megawatts (MW) on August 31, before declining to 2,936 MW on September 1 and 2,934 MW on September 2. It fell further to 2,920 MW on September 3.
In contrast, daily electricity generation increased from 57.24 gigawatt-hours (GWh) on August 31 to 58.37 GWh on September 1.
Generation remained at elevated levels over the following two days, reaching 58.34 GWh on September 2 and 58.08 GWh on September 3, according to the Central Bank’s latest report.
The figures indicate a widening gap between daily electricity generation and demand during the period, with generation remaining above demand as measured in their respective units.
