The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith has urged the fishing community to support efforts to combat the country’s growing drug menace and refrain from allowing fishing boats to be used for drug trafficking.
The Cardinal said it was unfortunate that a significant amount of drugs entering the country was being transported by sea using boats.
He warned that drug addiction was having a devastating impact on the country’s youth, destroying their lives and causing serious hardship for their families.
“I humbly request the fishing community not to facilitate the transportation of drugs into the country through their boats,” Cardinal Ranjith said.
He made the remarks while attending an event held today (6) at St. Lazarus Church in Bandarawatta, Beruwala.
