Showers or thundershowers may occur at several places in Uva, Central and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts after 2.00 p.m, today (07), the Department of Meteorology said.

Fairly heavy rainfall above 50 mm are likely at some places in Uva and Eastern provinces.

A few showers will occur in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, it stated.

The general public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

The sun is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka during 28 August to 07 September due to its apparent southward relative motion, the Met. Department added.

The nearest places of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Galle, Angulugaha, Imaduwa, Telijjawila, Yatiyana and Tangalle about 12.08 noon.
