A luxury car traveling on the Southern Expressway veered off the road and crashed into the safety fence, resulting in an accident this morning (07).
The accident occurred near the 32.4-kilometre post in Dodangoda, where the vehicle veered off the roadway.
A woman travelling in the vehicle reportedly sustained minor injuries in the incident.
According to police, the vehicle was travelling to Matara from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake. The accident occurred when the car collided with barricades placed along the expressway for road maintenance work, causing the vehicle to veer forward and crash into the central safety fence.
The collision caused significant damage to the expressway’s central safety fence and the road-maintenance barricades, as well as extensive damage to the luxury car.
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
