A 46-year-old man known as “Bhootha Kaluwa,” the brother-in-law of alleged organized crime figure “Kos Malli,” has been hacked to death in Dehiwala early this morning, police stated.

The attack took place at around 1:45 a.m. today (7) at the victim’s residence in Orban Place of Dehiwala.

Police said a group of four men arrived at the house in a three-wheeler, broke down the door and entered the premises. The assailants then attacked the victim, who was asleep in bed, using sharp weapons before fleeing the scene.

The seriously injured man was rushed to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

According to police, the victim had reportedly spent several years in Dubai with “Kos Malli.” He had returned to Sri Lanka a few weeks ago after suffering a stroke.

Police suspect that the killing may have been carried out by a faction linked to organized crime figure “Badowita Asanka.”

Several police teams have been deployed to track down and arrest the suspects.

Further investigations into the murder are underway.
