Special security measures have been implemented around the prison ward where Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa is being held at the Colombo Remand Prison, Prisons Media Spokesman Senaka Palletenna said.

He said MP Namal Rajapaksa has been permitted to receive all three meals from his home following a request made on his behalf.

Three family members have also been permitted to visit the detained MP each day, the Prisons Media Spokesman said.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa visited Namal Rajapaksa at the Colombo Remand Prison today (7). Several other political representatives also visited him.

Meanwhile, Namal Rajapaksa has been granted permission to attend parliament from tomorrow, following a request made by the MP.

Namal Rajapaksa was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption over an alleged bribery offence linked to the controversial Airbus case.

He was later produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court and remanded until September 18.
