Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka today (08) on an official visit.

Accordingly, he is scheduled to undertake his official visit from today until September 10, 2026.

The visit is aimed at further strengthening defence cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.

During his visit, the Indian Defence Minister is expected to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Defence Ministry Secretary Sampath Thuyacontha, and several other officials.

Indian media reports state that the implementation of the India-Sri Lanka defence cooperation agreement signed during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Sri Lanka last year is also expected to be reviewed during the visit.

It is also noteworthy that this will be the first visit by an Indian Defence Minister to Sri Lanka in 38 years.

Meanwhile, a special traffic plan has been implemented in Colombo in view of Rajnath Singh’s visit, according to the Colombo Traffic Division.

Accordingly, traffic restrictions will be imposed on several main roads in Colombo at various times during the periods when the Indian Defence Minister travels to various locations during his three-day visit.
