The first parliamentary week of September is scheduled to commence today (08).

Accordingly, Parliament is scheduled to sit from today until September 11, the Parliamentary Secretariat said.

The Parliament is scheduled to convene at 9:30 a.m. today under the chairmanship of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. Two orders issued under the Motor Traffic Act and published in Extraordinary Gazettes No. 2489/22 and 2493/19 are scheduled to be taken up for debate and approval today.

This will be followed by a debate on an adjournment motion brought by the Opposition.

The second reading debate on the Chief of Defence Staff (Removal) Bill is scheduled to be held, tomorrow (09).

On September 10, a resolution under the Women Empowerment Act is scheduled to be taken up for debate and approval, according to the Parliamentary Secretariat.

Meanwhile, seven Private Members’ Motions are scheduled to be debated on September 11, 2026.

Meanwhile, permission has been granted for National Organiser of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Member of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa, who is currently in remand custody, to attend today’s parliamentary session.

Prison Media Spokesman and Commissioner of Prisons Senaka Palletenna said that arrangements would be made for Namal Rajapaksa to attend the parliamentary session following a notification issued by the Secretary-General of Parliament.
