Significant decline in human-elephant conflicts this year - Wildlife Dept.
The Department of Wildlife Conservation says that human-elephant conflicts have decreased significantly this year compared to the previous year.
Director General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Ranjan Marasinghe, said that according to data recorded up to August 21, a total of 207 wild elephants have died and 88 people have lost their lives due to human-elephant conflicts so far this year.
He urged the public to remain vigilant, noting that the movement of wild elephants has increased due to the prevailing dry weather conditions.
