Appointments have been granted to 100 new employees of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE), today (08).
Issuing a statement, the Ministry stated that the appointments were formally presented this morning at the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.
The new appointments were made for the positions of Information Technology Officer, Management Assistant, Driver and Office Assistant. Promotions were also granted to a number of existing employees of the Bureau, the statement said.
Applications were invited through public advertisements from young applicants who had fulfilled the required educational and vocational qualifications. Following interviews and a formal recruitment process, the appointments were made.
As a semi-government institution, the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment has, in previous years, provided employment opportunities on political grounds.
A significant feature of the present recruitment is that it marks the first proper recruitment conducted on an open basis by the Bureau in 40 years. Employment opportunities have been provided to applicants representing every district of Sri Lanka.
The newly appointed employees will be assigned to provincial and district offices across the island in order to ensure the continued provision of public services by the Bureau, the Ministry said.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment Koshala Wickramasinghe stated that the appointments would be confirmed following a probationary period and a performance evaluation.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Vijitha Herath stated that the foreign employment sector has played a key role in rebuilding the country’s economy over the past two years. Sri Lanka received USD 8.2 billion in foreign remittances in 2025 alone.
The Minister further emphasized that ensuring the job security and welfare of hundreds of thousands of Sri Lankan workers employed overseas, including in the Middle East, is a responsibility of the newly appointed officers, the statement added.
He also called on the new officers to work towards changing the public perception of the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment, listen attentively and compassionately to the concerns of the people, provide an efficient service, and discharge their duties with dignity.
