Attorney-at-Law Dr. Ajith Rohana, who served as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) in charge of the North Western Province, is scheduled to retire from the Sri Lanka Police Service after completing 38 years of distinguished service.

A farewell police guard of honour was held today (08) at the Welegedara Stadium in Kurunegala to mark his retirement.

It was stated at the event that Dr. Ajith Rohana will formally retire from the Police Department on September 11, 2026.

Dr. Ajith Rohana went down in history of Sri Lanka’s Police service as the youngest officer ever appointed as a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and is an Attorney-at-Law, and is widely respected as a senior police officer.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a prominent role in communicating with the public in his capacity as Police Media Spokesperson. He became widely known and respected for his professional competence and approachable manner.

Born in Kosgama, Avissawella, Dr. Ajith Rohana is an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo.

He obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka and was admitted as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court. In 2020, he was awarded an honorary doctorate in recognition of his dedicated public service.

Throughout his career, he held several prestigious positions, including Police Media Spokesperson, Board Member of the National Child Protection Authority, and Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Southern, North Western, and Eastern Provinces.
