Sri Lanka has provided USD 1 million in humanitarian assistance to Nepal following the Bhote Koshi River floods on August 26, 2026, which caused significant loss of life and widespread damage in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and several other districts.
In fulfilment of the commitment made by the Government of Sri Lanka, under the direction of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, to extend support to Nepal, Ambassador of Sri Lanka Ruwanthi Delpitiya today handed over a financial contribution of USD 1 million to the Government of Nepal, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu said.
The financial contribution was formally handed over to the Foreign Minister of Nepal Shisir Khanal, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.
At the meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya reiterated, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka, deep sympathy and solidarity with the people of Nepal and extended heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the disaster, the statement said.
The financial assistance is intended to support the ongoing humanitarian, relief and recovery efforts of the Government of Nepal and assist communities affected by the floods and landslides.
“The handing over of the contribution further reflects the close and longstanding bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal. Sri Lanka remains committed to standing with Nepal and its people in times of need and strengthening the enduring relations between the two countries.”
The Government of Sri Lanka will continue to remain engaged with the Government of Nepal and explore appropriate avenues to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts, the statement added.
