Former Mayor of the Bandarawela Municipal Council, Janaka Nishantha Ratnayake has been arrested by the Bandarawela Special Crime Investigation Unit in connection with an alleged financial fraud and the preparation of forged documents at the Municipal Council.
Police said the arrest was made following investigations based on information obtained from two revenue inspectors and several clerical officers of the Municipal Council, who were arrested several months ago and are currently in remand custody.
Ratnayake was reportedly arrested last night (09).
He is currently being questioned by officers of the Bandarawela Special Crime Investigation Unit.
The former mayor is scheduled to be produced before the Bandarawela Magistrate’s Court today (10).
