Tom Jones says ITV has removed him as a full-time coach on "The Voice UK" because of financial concerns related to insurance.

The 86-year-old singer addressed his departure in a statement posted to Instagram and X on Sept. 8. Jones said ITV informed him only recently, even though the decision had apparently been made some time earlier.

According to Jones, the network cited "financial difficulty with insurance" as the reason for ending his role. He also rejected the idea that he had chosen to leave the show.

"To be clear, I did not want to leave 'The Voice' as I love the show and really appreciate the audience," Jones wrote.

Jones said ITV later described the change as a refresh of the coaching lineup. He claimed the network offered him a smaller role involving occasional appearances rather than a full coaching position.

"I'm not thrilled about that," Jones wrote. He ended the statement by saying, "There's never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who's still pretty good at his job."

ITV has not publicly confirmed Jones' description of the insurance issue. However, a spokesperson said the network has enjoyed working with him and that discussions with Jones and his representatives about possible future involvement are continuing.

Jones joined "The Voice UK" when the series launched in 2012. He missed one season but returned to the coaching panel and became one of the show's longest-serving coaches. He has also coached three winners during his time on the program.

If Jones does not return as a full-time coach, the change will mark the end of his regular role after 13 seasons.

ITV has not announced whether Jones will appear in a limited capacity or who will permanently replace him on the next season of "The Voice UK."
