
Two suspects allegedly involved in a series of thefts, including motorcycles, copper wires and mobile phones, have been arrested by officers attached to the Katunayake Police Station.
Acting on information received, police officers inspected a suspicious individual who was allegedly dismantling a motorcycle into parts in the Andiambalama area.
During the search, police recovered 11 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin in his possession.
Upon questioning the arrested suspect, it was revealed that the motorcycle he was dismantling had been stolen from the Veyangoda area on September 8.
Police subsequently arrested another suspect in the Seeduwa area who had allegedly aided and abetted the theft.
The suspects, aged 22 and 25, are residents of Andiambalama and Seeduwa, police said.
Further questioning of the suspects also revealed information regarding two copper wire thefts and a mobile phone theft in the Katunayake area, as well as another motorcycle theft in the Seeduwa area.
Katunayake Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
