Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has stressed that nurturing a future generation capable of providing leadership to society and contributing to positive change in the world is an urgent priority.

Addressing students from Rahmaniya Maha Vidyalaya, Eravur, Batticaloa, during their visit to the Presidential Secretariat and President’s House today (14), the Prime Minister said the country must focus on preparing young people to take on leadership roles and create meaningful change.

The students were visiting the institutions under the ‘Vision’ programme, jointly implemented by the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Communication Division of the Parliament of Sri Lanka to provide schoolchildren with exposure to key state institutions.

The students toured the former Parliament building at the Presidential Secretariat and received a briefing on the history of Parliament.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya said the government’s new education reforms were aimed at enabling children to acquire knowledge from around the world while developing a confident and empowered generation capable of making a meaningful contribution to the country.

Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage briefed the students on the role of the President’s Fund and the assistance available to schoolchildren through the Fund.

As part of the programme, valuable plants were also presented to the school as a symbolic gesture highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, the President’s Media Division said in a statement.

The Director and Assistant Director of the Tri-Forces Security Coordination Unit, the Principal and teachers of Rahmaniya Maha Vidyalaya, Eravur, and several others attended the programme, according to the President’s Media Division.
