The government is fully committed to strengthening infrastructure in the education sector to help produce a disciplined and law-abiding future generation, the Minister of Justice and National Integration, Harshana Nanayakkara said.

Addressing the 150th anniversary celebrations of Prince and Princess of Wales’ Colleges in Moratuwa, Minister Nanayakkara stressed the importance of developing young people who are disciplined, well-educated and respectful of the law.

He said the government would continue to strengthen the country’s education system to achieve this objective, emphasizing the importance of schools in shaping the character and values of future generations.

The Minister made the remarks at a ceremony held at the premises of Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa, today to mark the 150th anniversary of the two institutions.

Founded in 1876 on the visionary initiative of Sir Charles Henry de Soysa, Prince and Princess of Wales’ Colleges have a proud 150-year history of contributing distinguished individuals to the country, the Minister said.

Over the decades, the two institutions have produced Chief Justices of the Supreme Court, prominent lawyers, diplomats and leading figures in a wide range of fields, the Justice Minister noted.

The anniversary celebration was held under the patronage of Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who attended as the chief guest.
