Police have uncovered significant information regarding the two main suspects allegedly involved in the hand grenade attack in Dehiwala that resulted in the deaths of two children.

Police stated that operations are currently underway to arrest the suspects as soon as possible.

Two children were killed and their father sustained severe injuries to his legs in a hand grenade attack carried out in the early hours of September 11 at a residence along the Sirisangabo Mawatha in Dehiwala.

The father subsequently underwent an amputation, while the final rites of the two deceased children were held yesterday (14).

Investigations into the incident were launched under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) in charge of the Western Province Sajeewa Medawatte, on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya.

As part of the investigation, the Mount Lavinia Division Crimes Investigation Bureau arrested an individual suspected of handing over the three-wheeler used by the perpetrators to a garage for its colour to be changed, along with the owner of the garage.

During questioning, it was revealed that the suspects had acted on the instructions of individuals known as “Kos Malli” and “Bodhiyawatte Avishka,” who are alleged to have masterminded the attack.

Meanwhile, several police teams are conducting investigations to locate the uncle of the suspect known as “Kos Malli,” who is believed to have carried out the grenade attack. Police stated that vital information regarding his whereabouts has already been uncovered.

Police have also uncovered significant information regarding the individual believed to have driven the three-wheeler used by the suspects. According to police, information has been received indicating that he is a resident of Saranankara Road in Kalubowila.

Meanwhile, the Police Special Task Force (STF) arrested an individual who allegedly operated a local drug distribution network for “Bodhiyawatte Avishka,” along with stocks of crystal methamphetamine(‘Ice’) and heroin.

The suspect was arrested in Kalubowila. Investigating officers recovered 2 kilograms and 10 grams of Ice, 504 grams of heroin, a weighing scale, two rubber seals and two mobile phones in his possession.
