
More than 163,000 people across 36 Divisional Secretariat divisions have been affected by the prevailing dry weather conditions, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said today (15).
Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing held at the Department of Government Information, Minister Jayatissa said a total of 163,869 individuals from 50,176 families have been affected by the ongoing dry spell.
Of the affected population, 43,586 families are currently experiencing water shortages as well, the Minister said.
He added that the authorities are currently distributing drinking water to 142,236 people from these affected families as measures continue to address the impact of the prolonged dry weather.
