
Former Chairman of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority Prasanna Sanjeewa has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
He was arrested over allegations that he caused a loss of Rs. 4.16 million to the government by issuing passenger transport permits without following the prescribed tender procedure.
According to CIABOC, the permits were issued in violation of the Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority Statute, allegedly providing an undue benefit to external parties and constituting an offence of corruption.
Sanjeewa was arrested at around 9:50 a.m. today (15) and is due to be produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
