Sri Lanka Police have temporarily suspended the online submission of applications for Police Clearance Certificates due to essential maintenance work being carried out on the Police Clearance computer system.

Until the system is fully restored, applicants can submit their applications through their nearest police station, the Police Media Division said in a statement.

According to the Police Media Division, applicants should visit the official Sri Lanka Police website and access the “Clearance Certificate” section under “Digital Services” to download the relevant application form.

Applicants are required to submit the duly completed application form along with their National Identity Card (NIC), passport and birth certificate at the nearest police station.

Where there is a discrepancy between the name on the NIC and the name on the passport, an affidavit must also be submitted if the Police Clearance Certificate is to be issued under the name appearing on the passport.

Applicants currently residing overseas may authorize a close relative to submit the required documents to the relevant police station on their behalf.

A police officer will assist applicants by entering the required information into the Police Clearance Certificate system. Applicants must carefully verify all information before signing the application, as no amendments can be made by police station officers once the information has been entered into the system, the Police Media Division noted.

An application fee of Rs. 5,000 will be charged, and an official payment receipt will be issued by the relevant police station.

The Police Media Division has also advised applicants that they are no longer required to submit applications through the previously introduced email address. Those who have already submitted applications through that email address are also required to submit a fresh application through their nearest police station.

Foreign nationals seeking Police Clearance Certificates may submit their applications through the Sri Lankan Embassy in their respective countries.

Police said the online application facility will be reinstated once the Police Clearance computer system has been fully restored.
