
An office assistant attached to the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has been arrested by investigating officers of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) for allegedly soliciting and accepting a Rs. 500 bribe to provide a copy of a court judgment.
The arrest was made following an investigation launched based on information received by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau.
The suspect had allegedly requested the bribe on June 30 to provide a copy of the judgment in a case involving a financial dispute that had been settled at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
Acting on the information received, CIABOC officers arrested the suspect at around 3.35 p.m. yesterday (16) within the premises of the Fort Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, while CIABOC is conducting further investigations into the incident.
