
Ambalangoda Police have arrested a man over several charges, including breaking into the computer unit of a school in Ambalangoda and stealing two tablet computer devices.
The suspect had been remanded in custody over nearly 20 charges, including robbery and possession of narcotics, and had been released on bail about two months ago.
He was arrested yesterday (16) after being questioned on suspicion in the Dalukkanda area of Ambalangoda. Police recovered narcotics worth around Rs. 600,000 and a gas cylinder allegedly stolen from a residence in his possession.
Police said investigations have revealed that the suspect, who is heavily addicted to drugs, had allegedly committed the thefts to obtain money to buy drugs.
Several complaints had previously been lodged with Ambalangoda and several other police stations regarding robbery and thefts allegedly linked to the suspect. He had also been remanded and released on bail on several previous occasions.
The suspect is due to be produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate’s Court.
