Sri Lanka’s first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and the “Diyajanani” Dambulla floating solar power plant are scheduled to be inaugurated today (18) under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

The Battery Energy Storage System was established to enhance the country’s renewable energy capacity and improve the stability of the national power grid.

Constructed in Anuradhapura, the battery energy storage system has a capacity of 10 megawatts.

Furthermore, under the government’s national programme to generate electricity through renewable energy, the “Diyajanani” floating solar power system, constructed on Ibbankatuwa Wewa in Dambulla, is also scheduled to be inaugurated by the President this afternoon.

The Diyajanani solar power plant will add 5 megawatts of capacity to the national grid and is expected to provide electricity to approximately 10,000 households.
