Sri Lanka Police said that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has requested Interpol for the issuance of ‘Blue Notice’ for the arrest of former Minister Basil Rajapaksa in connection with three allegations.
The accusations include charges related to the investigations into the alleged misuse of funds from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau and money laundering charges.
The investigations are related to money laundering charges involving the purchase of a property at Browns Hill, Matara, and the alleged misuse of Rs. 7.8 million in funds belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau to distribute 12,000 T-shirts during the Uva Provincial Council election campaign.
An Interpol ‘Blue Notice’ is an international alert used by law enforcement to collect additional information about a person's identity, location, or activities in connection with a criminal investigation.
