The number of dengue-related deaths recorded in Sri Lanka so far this year has risen to 75.
According to data from the National Dengue Control Unit, the total number of reported dengue cases stands at 98,616, with a recorded mortality rate of 0.076%.
The Western Province accounts for 52.62% of the total cases, while the Southern Province recorded the second-highest number of cases, totalling 14,209.
At the district level, the highest number of dengue cases was reported from the Gampaha District (20,917), followed by the Colombo District (19,435) and Kandy District (7,410).
Meanwhile, the highest monthly figures of cases were recorded in July this year, with 29,964 patients. Additionally, 21,533 cases were reported in June and 10,155 in August.
So far in September, a total of 3,125 cases have been identified.
Thirty-four Medical Officer of Health (MOH) areas have been identified as high-risk zones for dengue, and health authorities urge the public to take immediate steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and keep the environment clean.
