
The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has issued a Level 3 (Red) landslide early warning for several areas in the Kandy, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The warning will be in effect from 2:00 p.m. today (20) to 2:00 p.m. tomorrow (21).
Accordingly, level 3 warning has been issued to residents of the Pasbage Korale Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Kandy District, Dehiowita, Aranayaka, Deraniyagala, Mawanella and Yatiyanthota Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Kegalle District and the Kotmale West, Kotmale East, Ambagamuwa and Norwood Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Nuwara Eliya District.
Meanwhile, a Level 2 (Amber) warning remains in effect for selected areas in the Colombo, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts.
Level 2 warning is in place for residents of the Padukka Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Colombo District, Nagoda, Thawalama and Neluwa Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Galle District, Bulathsinhala, Palindanuwara, Walallawita and Agalawatta Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Kalutara District, Ganga Ihala Korale Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Kandy District, Bulathkohupitiya and Kegalle Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Kegalle District, Akuressa and Pitabeddara Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Matara District, Talawakelle Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Nuwara Eliya District and the Pelmadulla, Ratnapura, Ayagama and Kuruwita Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Ratnapura District.
Residents in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant for signs of landslides and to follow instructions issued by local authorities, particularly during heavy rains.
