The All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) has launched an appeal to King of Saudi Arabia Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, seeking a pardon for Sri Lankan national Sivarasa Anojan, who is facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.
The ACMC has begun collecting signatures from Members of Parliament in support of the appeal.
It has also written to the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, the National Shoora Council and the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum, requesting their intervention through the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Sri Lanka to convey the humanitarian appeal to the Saudi authorities.
The ACMC said it remains closely concerned about the situation facing Anojan and his family and will pursue all available legal and diplomatic avenues to seek relief for them.
