CCIB launches probe into Wimal Weerawansa’s Anuradhapura rally remarks

The Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has launched an investigation into whether former Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s statements made at an SLPP rally in Anuradhapura on September 12 amounted to contempt of court.

 

The investigation was launched on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), police said.

 

The CCIB is examining the statements made by Weerawansa at the rally and assessing whether they constitute an offence under the relevant laws concerning contempt of court.

 

Police have not indicated that any finding of contempt has been made at this stage, with the investigation currently underway.
