The President’s Fund is set to commence its programme to recognise students who demonstrated outstanding performance at the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination at district level, with the first programme scheduled to be held in Kilinochchi on September 26.

Under the programme, the number of students recognised from each subject stream has been increased from 10 to 20 students per district, meaning nearly 3,000 students from across Sri Lanka will be recognised this year.

Each selected student will receive Rs. 100,000 in financial assistance, along with a certificate of recognition, the President’s Media Division said in a statement.

The programme was launched in 2025 as a new initiative of the President’s Fund under the chairmanship of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the PMD stated.

During its initial implementation, the programme recognised the top-performing students in each subject stream at district level at the 2023/2024 G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination. Ten students with the highest results in each subject stream were recognised from each district.

The number of awardees has been doubled this year to further expand the programme and provide greater support to high-achieving students.

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the primary objective of the programme is to identify and encourage the talents of the younger generation preparing to take responsibility for the country’s future, while providing financial assistance to support their further education.

The President’s Fund also plans to expand the programme to the provincial level in the future.

The initiative is expected to provide additional educational support to high-performing students while recognising their achievements at district level, the PMD added.
